Two militants of the Taliban insurgent group have been killed after an Improvised Explosive Devices they were planting along a road detonated prematurely, the Afghan Defence Ministry said on Thursday.

According to a statement from the ministry, the incident occurred on Wednesday in Durrahi Shir Khan Bandar, a locality in northern Kunduz province.

Taliban militants and Islamic State fighters have been using IEDs to make roadside bombs and land mines for targeting security forces.

The ministry also said that the bomb disposal teams of the Afghan National Army found and destroyed 20 rounds of IEDs across the country within the past 24 hours.

The Taliban militant group has yet to make comment.
